Painting rust the easy way (part three)

Once you have your primer applied, apply your actual paint colour (in the case of the truckapillar above, turquoise) within the areas you have coated with primer, leaving a ‘rim’ of primer between the edges of the painted areas and rusted patches.

When this has dried off you can apply some more recent weathering, such as a wash or brighter orange rust around corrosion prone areas, such as dribbling down from bolts and other moisture traps. Finally lightly highlight exposed edges with some un-corroded metallic silver to simulate recent scratches and dings and Robert is your mother’s brother, you have a rendered your lovely pristine model a near-write off wreck.
